Urban Lullaby: Listening to the City

Urban Lullaby was an Artbrush project by Anjali Arora concerned with city noise, silence and sleep. An archived entrance survives from 2002, while the preserved trAce Assemblage catalogue links directly to this directory.

The city is heard in layers. A sound that forms a background for one person can interrupt another; the same street may seem different at night. Listening therefore depends on position, repetition and attention, not only on the presence of a sound.

This offers a way to approach an interactive sound work. A visitor may encounter a sequence in a chosen order, linger at one point, or return to something previously ignored. These are possibilities of the medium, rather than a reconstruction of every control in Urban Lullaby.

The record here identifies the project and provides a route to its historical context. It does not contain a newly invented audio track labelled as the original. A saved page alone cannot establish that all of its media dependencies remain available.
