White Trees: The Title and the Small Record

The small object card calls the work White Trees. The painting’s visual weight, however, belongs as much to the ground as to the things named in the title.

Slender ivory paper uprights meet a broad field of lateral indigo and rust marks.

What the card identifies

The object card captured on 23 March 2008 identifies White Trees as a watercolour. Its document title attributes the work to Anjali Arora. The historical card contains a price and a purchase column; those are elements of that saved record, not a present offer or evidence of current availability.

The ground answers the title

In the examined 450 × 222 pixel image, pale trunks gather on the right. Short light strokes interrupt a broad rusty-brown field below them. The upright accents name trees; the lateral marks make the ground more than a support.

One reading opens into a place. Another keeps returning to the surface, where a trunk and a short stroke are both events made by paint. Their difference in direction lets the picture hold those readings together. The three-watercolour essay compares this broad arrangement with the compressed flowers and foreground bedcover of two other works.

Edition note

This compact record is new independent writing at the historical /rw8.htm address. The linked capture dates identify saved files, not the date of painting. The original image stays at its archival source; no reproduction licence or artist representation is claimed.
